Privacy Policy

1. About TargetWise

TargetWise operates a business-to-business data enrichment platform designed to help companies transform minimal contact information into complete, verified profiles. Starting from as little as a name and a company, our platform can return accurate email addresses, direct phone numbers, job titles, company information, and related firmographic details. Our customers — typically sales, marketing, and revenue operations teams — use this enriched data to reach genuine points of contact more efficiently, keep their CRM systems accurate, and reduce the time and cost involved in manual prospecting.

This Privacy Notice explains, in detail, what personal data TargetWise collects when you visit our website or use our services, why we collect it, how long we retain it, who we share it with, and what rights you have in relation to it. It applies both to visitors of our website and to registered customers of our platform.

2. The Personal Data We Process

TargetWise acts as the data controller for the categories of personal data described in this notice. Depending on how you interact with us — whether as a website visitor, a registered account holder, or an individual whose professional contact information appears within our enrichment database — we may collect and process the following categories of data:

  • Identity data: full name, job title, employer/company name.
  • Contact data: email address, business phone number, country, billing address.
  • Account data: account ID, username, password (stored in encrypted/hashed form), account preferences.
  • Transaction data: payment transaction reference, order history, invoices, and billing records (processed via our third-party payment provider, Stripe).
  • Technical and usage data: IP address, browser type and version, device information, pages visited, time spent on our website, and general browsing behaviour on our Site, collected via cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy for full details).
  • Marketing and communications data: your preferences in relation to receiving marketing from us, and your communication preferences.

Where personal data relating to third parties (such as business contacts within our enrichment database) is processed as part of our core service, we handle this in accordance with our GDPR page, which sets out our legal basis and approach to that specific category of processing in detail.

3. Why We Process This Data, and the Legal Basis for Doing So

a. Processing necessary to perform our contract with you

When you create an account, place an order, or subscribe to our services, we process certain personal data because it is necessary to perform our contract with you:

  • Full name – used to correctly identify you, personalise our communications with you, and correctly attribute activity on your account.
  • Email address – used to respond to your enquiries, send account-related notifications (such as order confirmations, billing receipts, and service updates), and keep you informed about the status of your orders or subscription.
  • Country – used to determine applicable tax treatment and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Billing address – used for invoicing purposes and to comply with applicable tax and accounting obligations.
  • Payment transaction reference – shared with our payment processor, Stripe, to confirm, process, and reconcile your payments.
  • Account ID – used internally to manage your account, usage limits, and billing history.

b. Processing based on your consent

Where you have given us your consent, we may additionally process your personal data for the following purposes. You are free to withdraw this consent at any time, as explained in Section 6 below.

TargetWise Newsletter

  • Email address – used to send you newsletter content, product updates, and relevant industry insights you've subscribed to receive.

Website and advertising analytics

  • Browsing behaviour – shared with the analytics and advertising partners listed in our Cookie Policy, allowing us to understand how our website is used and to show you more relevant content and advertising.
  • Email address – used to build matched custom audiences on advertising platforms such as Meta, Google, and LinkedIn, helping us ensure our marketing reaches people likely to be genuinely interested in our services.

c. Processing based on our legitimate interests

In certain circumstances, we process personal data on the basis of our legitimate interests, provided these are not overridden by your own interests or fundamental rights. This includes, for example, using technical and usage data to maintain the security and performance of our website and platform, and to prevent fraud or misuse of our services.

4. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. However, in order to operate our platform and deliver our services, we do share certain personal data with the following categories of recipients:

  • Payment processing: Your payment transaction data is shared with Stripe, which acts as an independent data controller for the purpose of processing your payment. You can review Stripe's own privacy practices at their published privacy policy.
  • Infrastructure and hosting providers: We rely on data processors to host our website, platform, and databases securely. These providers act strictly on our instructions and are contractually bound to protect any personal data they process on our behalf.
  • Analytics and marketing partners: Where you have consented to marketing cookies, certain browsing and email data may be shared with analytics and advertising partners named in our Cookie Policy.
  • Customers of our enrichment platform: If your professional contact details form part of our enrichment database, they may be accessed by TargetWise customers using our platform for legitimate sales and marketing purposes. These customers act as independent data controllers in respect of any data they obtain through our platform, and are separately responsible for their own compliance with applicable data protection law when using that data.
  • Legal and regulatory disclosures: We may disclose personal data where required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of TargetWise, our customers, or others.

An up-to-date list of our current data processors is available on request by contacting us at office@targetwise.ai.

5. How Long We Retain Your Data

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, taking into account legal, accounting, and reporting requirements. Our general retention approach is as follows:

  • Account data: retained for three years from your last login, reflecting our legitimate interest in maintaining continuity of your account in case you return after a period of inactivity.
  • Financial and billing records (such as invoices and transaction records): retained for six years, in order to meet statutory accounting and tax record-keeping obligations under applicable law.
  • Newsletter subscriber data: retained for as long as the newsletter service continues to operate, or until you unsubscribe, whichever occurs first.
  • Cookie data: retained only for the duration of the individual cookie's lifetime, as set out in our Cookie Policy, or until you clear it from your browser.
  • Enrichment database records (professional contact data of third parties): retained and refreshed on an ongoing basis in line with our legitimate interest assessment, and removed or suppressed upon a valid opt-out request, or when we become aware the information is no longer current (see our GDPR page for further detail).

6. Your Rights, and How to Exercise Them

Depending on the legal basis for processing and your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • The right to request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • The right to request erasure of your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions (for example, where we are required to retain financial records for tax purposes).
  • The right to request that we restrict how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • The right to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interest, including for direct marketing.
  • The right to data portability, where technically feasible.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before your withdrawal.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at office@targetwise.ai. We will respond to valid requests within the timeframes required under applicable data protection law, generally within one month.

To withdraw consent for our newsletter specifically, you can either email office@targetwise.ai or use the unsubscribe link included in any newsletter email you receive from us.

7. Complaints

If you have any concerns about how we process your personal data, we would encourage you to contact us directly first, at office@targetwise.ai, so that we have the opportunity to understand and address your concerns. If you remain unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

8. Changes to This Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our services, or applicable law. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by posting a notice on our website or, where appropriate, contacting you directly. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we handle your personal data.
